It is all about the “desire to observe.” The Film begins in the austere setting of an unspecified provincial city somewhere in China, captured in vivid images that seem to be jumping out of their temporal and spatial parameters and out from the screen right at the audience. The keen look at the other and the self, releases us, while we still struggle with our inability to transgress the boundary of the world we live in, to some remote place. Without seeking answers about cause and effect from specific things, this highly original film aims to define our position in the vague and obscure space between our own and other people’s existence.

The protagonist has been living for years behind locked doors without leaving the house, and without speaking to anyone. The one thing that keeps him going is his desire to continuously observe with his camera the existence of others as projections of his hidden inner self, facing which he has been avoiding up to this point. Will he attain spiritual freedom through the images of others in the dreamlike sceneries of their daily life?

The film won an Award of Excellence in the International Competition section at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival 2017.
