This is a choir concert by the Saitama Prefectural Ohmiya Koryo High School Choir, members of which also appear as a choir in a video work by one of the artists featured at the Saitama Triennale 2023.

We approach this concert with the joy of being able to sing in chorus after having overcome the situation of limited opportunity for doing so. Look forward to experiencing the musical world as created by the Ohmiya Koryo High School Choir.

One of the highlights will be the song Read by the wind (Kaze no kaishaku). It was performed at a competition in the summer of 2022, and also during the choir’s appearance in a work by Mikhail KARIKIS, one of the participating artists at this festival. Realized with numerous collaborators, the making of the work at the Former Omiya Civic Hall in May was an opportunity to witness the birth of a magnificent artwork themed on images and sounds. Several cameras and high-sensitivity microphones installed at the set created a rather tense atmosphere, which for the members of the choir was an extremely valuable experience.

“The song Read by the wind (Kaze no kaishaku) can be presented in many different ways, depending on the interpretation that you wrap your performance in.”

This is a quote from KUTANI Kiji who wrote the lyrics to the song. For the choir, each performance of it comes with new discoveries that deepen the understanding and “interpretation” (kaishaku) of the song and its lyrics. At this concert, we invite the audience to try find their own interpretations.

We hope you enjoy the performance to your heart’s content.
